We were determined to get to Savannah on the early side to see the immediate area of our B/B, the Hamilton Turner Inn. On the way, we detoured to 17N and found the incredible home of MAC'S BBQ and SMOKE HOUSE !!!! Well, lordy, the nice smoke man welcomed us outside in their own smoke tent and even took a picture with the former Judge Grossman.
So, inside, Mel ate what he honestly termed the "best ribs ever"---not baby backs. Fried corn on the cob (oh, yeah) and St. Louis ribs and cole slaw. I had a yummy pulled smoked turkey sandwich, slathered with Mac's famous sauce (a little more vinegary, not sweet, but goooood). I had fried okra, of course, and we shared some great onion rings. Lots of tea (UNsweet, please---sorry Billly), no room for pecan pie, but we left real happy !
We checked in to the Inn, just in time for some lemonade and sweet muffins; went upstairs and unpacked and came back down in time for some wine and cheese and crackers, and then realized that there was no way we were eating dinner, but at 8, Mel did have some Port to cap off our evening. Honestly, asleep by 9:30.
Again, an incredibly beautiful 7 room property, all decked out for the holiday. Our gorgeous room overlooked Lafayette Square, and another perfect ending.
Tomorrow, we "do" Savannah ! If we can force ourselves to leave the room !
